Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM), also known as spark machining or electro-erosion machining, is a high-precision process used to shape metal parts by removing material with high-frequency electrical sparks.
EDM works by generating heat from sparks between an electrode and a conductive workpiece, melting and eroding tiny amounts of material. This allows for the creation of complex and highly precise shapes—even in hard metals that are difficult to machine by conventional methods.
Electrodes, typically made of copper or graphite, are formed to match the desired shape. Both the electrode and workpiece are submerged in a dielectric fluid, and a controlled voltage triggers spark discharges that remove material.
